MacKID Picks: Visit a Rainforest, Find Out About Bats, and More!

Virtual events, clock changes, and more this week!

By Macaroni KID March 7, 2023

Time is marching on ... most of us spring forward our clocks this week! But that's not all! We've got a great lineup of fascinating virtual events happening this week — and they're all free! Kids can learn about bats from an ecologist, go for a walk through the rainforest with a zoologist, and take part in storytimes about flying dinosaurs or an inspiring Civil Rights leader.

Here are all the details:

1. Find Out All About The Fascinating World of Bats

Students in grades 3 to 8 are invited to join National Geographic Explorer and ecologist Ricardo Rocha to learn about his work studying bats in Madagascar. March 9

2. Go 'Dinosoaring' At A Flights of Fancy Story Time

Join in for a reading of the rollicking adventure Dinosoaring by Deb Lund, which follows huge, daring dinosaurs as they take off in an airplane and fly to an air show. Learn about real skywriting showstoppers from the earliest days of flying to today. After the story, make a skywriting greeting card to send a message to a loved one. What would you write in the sky? March 10

Wondering where your local events are?

A Macaroni KID site near you needs a publisher to keep the local events calendar full!

3. Spring Forward!

It's time to spring forward! That means you set your clocks ahead an hour, which means the sun sets at a later hour, which means ... summer is on its way! March 12

4. Get Inspired By Civil Rights Leader Fannie Lou Hamer

Join the Northwest African American Museum in Seattle for a live virtual storytime reading of Voice of Freedom: Fannie Lou Hamer, written by Carole Boston Weatherford. This children's book brings to life the story of one of the most important civil rights leaders. March 12

5. Take A Walk Through The Rainforest

Fly, leap and swim along on an adventure through the Amazon Rainforest to explore the sights and sounds of plants and animals living in this unique ecosystem with experts from the National Zoo. March 15
